here is my latest work. this is hopefully going to be the 1st of many pieces for Halloween 2010.

i call it "YOU STARTLED ME"

I used nothing but woodless pencils and a verity of them. i think four different ones and a blending stump. i tried to get a nice composition with this one keeping in mind to use the triangle technique.

this was just cropped and has not been touched up in any programs. what you see is what is on the paper.

all critiques welcome.

i have some stuff to post so do not worry. stuff to look at is on its way! its late , im tired and dont feel like posting pics rite now.

i can tell you some news though. the book cover iam working on now got pushed ahead. it was due in Jan. now its due at the end of the month! so im trying to get everything done as fast as i can while keeping the quality up.

i also wanted to get some work done for Halloween. i have one piece done and one in the works but its been pushed aside because of the book cover. i will try to get the one finished piece up tomorrow.

Kim Richards , head and owner of Damnation Books set up a table at HORRORFIND 2010 CONVENTION and had great success ! they sold tons of books and my zombie holiday cards were a hit. the part that tickles me pink is one of the cards found its way into George A Remeros hand ! thats rite, the zombie king has some of my work.

Kim also went and got a tattoo of the logo i did awhile back for Damnation on her arm. feels great to see your work out on people!

ill be posting picks of the table they had set up with my work along side many of thier books and kims tattoo.

THE HAND THAT FEEDS

here is my latest, ive shown a few wips of this drawn in progress and now here it is finished. i call it "DONT BITE THE HAND THAT FEEDS YA"

i learned some new tricks with this one. like using a spray to re work the colored pencils. when you use color pencils and keep blending colors into other colors (burnishing) sooner or later you get to a point that you can no longer get any colors to "take". spray it the unfinished work with a workitable fixative and you can start adding more color ! the drool/spit was done this way as was some of the skin tones.

ok one more tip, make sure, i repeat make sure its a WORKITABLE fixative. i used a mat finish spray and it will flake off if over worked... live and learn.

this also was scanned just as i see it here. no touch ups in photoshop. when doing traditional work i want the viewer online to see it how it really is in real life.

this was a very fast sketch i did on an ACEO card. it measures 2 1/2" w X 3 1/2 h. i did it in ball point pen and was inspired by a sketch done by Ryan Ottley of "FLASH".

this makes my 4th zombie in "the zombie series" iam been doing on aceo cards. they are all on my deviant gallery.this one however is black and white and the others are in color. i find painting and sketching on a small are such as these help you hone your skills.

TIME: 10 min

MATERIAL: Bristol aceo card stock - 100 lb press.

so its been awhile since i posted anything. i apologize. life has been hectic.

but any way i do have some new work.

ok, this one is a little graphic(mature warning) but hey i still consider it art. this one took me longer then i would of liked. i prolly got 10 or so hours in it. i tried some new techniques and im pleased on how it came out. i like the look of pencil and marker.there are a few mistakes and as always i think it could of been better but i do like it.

the comic thing is new to me and im learning as i go. Ben writes the dialogue and i do all the art. they take alot more time then i thought they would but they are fun to do.

ive been working on the 2nd installment of "DEAD SEA SQUIRREL". im on the last panel. would of been done but i got stuck in a mess with one of the other parts of the comic. at this point im about 85% done. just a little more coloring and then add the dialogue !

so look for it soon.

ive also have another pencil sketch iam doing.i havent had time to work on it but i will soon. i love the pov of it, hopefully i can pull it off with out any problems.

hello all, just letting you guys know that my pc had to be reformatted because it got the 2010 virus off of facebook. its all fixxed and running good but i had to back up all my work and had to slowley get stuff back on here.

with that said iam working again on the next strip from "DEAD SEA SQUIRREL" and i also have a new idea for a spray paint painting.

sorry for the long wait in between blogs but you can say ive been a little busy lately. here is my new piece :

this took a long time. ive been working on it a little at time. my goal was to fill as much of the paper as i could.i didnt want any free space.theres a little but oh well. there is a small message in this one but im not gonna say what it is

i wore down alot of prisma colored pencils with this one , i was literally working with pencils under 2", im used to working with small tools so it was easy

this is a character development iam doing for web comic that a friend has come up with and it may be hitting your screens soon.

here is just a basic drawing, nothing fancy. iam trying to get the main characters look developed. he needs to resemble what he is but with a cartoon style.

i changed the eyes, didnt look mean enough in the 1st wip, i also shortened the front fins and added some floating human fingers as well as one in his mouth.

BAD DREAMS AND GUILLOTINES

what do ya do when you have a heard of zombies coming at ya ? break out the machete and start lopping off some heads !

this drawing took to long, roughly 20 hours. mostly prisma colored pencils with some marker. i wanted to make this drawing more dynamic then my others. i find it hard to give a stiff zombie motion. (im not into those fast zombies).i have to work on that more.

the shirt...man what a mess that was... i wanted to do a tie dye shirt and found it a bit harder then i thought it would be....so that is the result of the thing you see on him, lol.

the dudes hand holding the machete i feel is to small. didnt notice till i started coloring, oh well.

NEW WORK DONE , FINALLY

i finally have some new work to show ya.. im just about to spray it with some fixative and it should be up later today or tomorrow at the latest.

last night i was down with another migraine, thats 3 with in 3 weeks. and before that i went 3 months with out one...i hate em. so that put a damper on my art for the day.

good news is though that i finished up the piece today. i wont go to much into detail about it so not to spoil it. this piece is traditional and done in a favorite medium of mine.

Heres my latest Aceo card painting. these are fun but a pain in the butt as they are so small. 2 1/2inches x 3 1/2 inches. you find your self using colors more to try to get the details instead of lines.

this is a Christmas gift for my 13 year old niece. she called me up "uncle George ,can you draw me a zombie hoard ?"

i sure can ! im so glad, she was on a twilight thing for awhile and im ecstatic she is now into zombies !

here is the 3rd piece to my series of moon paintings. i call this one "BLUE MOON". this came out so much better then it looks in the photo. damn glare... i need some photo tips to get that out

i went out a little more on this one then my earlier paintings. i did a planet/moon with a smaller moon and instead of just a rocky landscape i gave it a waterfall.

its of a moon and a rocky landscape. done with all spray paint and some newspaper (for texture) and a top of a pan lid for a template for the moon.

its about 95% prisma markers with the rest being made up of some acrylic paint,white colored pencil,white charcoal pencil and some white out.

the scanner loves to give me problems but i got the scan as pretty close to the original.

so as artist we all need to study, i dont do it often but iam trying to do alot more. ive been studying the works and teachings of Loomis.

here i did an arm study from his book and put my own twist on it once i had the anatomy done. its not perfect but its a study.

i also did a Loomis head and tried to apply it to my style. now talk about hard...

sorry about the poor scan, its hard to scan a sketch book.

WTF ! no horror ? lol.... just working on my skills. ive been doing alot of studies lately just trying to get better.

here we have an apple i set up on a towel on my desk with two light sources.

2 layers but one is just a solid background of white.so the whole still life was drawin and painted in one layer.

alot more practice is needed.

sorry for having no art work to show. ive been doing alot of loomis studies lately via live stream with dave rapoza. a hugely talented artist that works for some huge names in the business.

ive always put off anatomy drawing and studies as "monsters" are of the imagination but im taking my art to a whole new level and learning anatomy and the building blocks of it will be a huge tool in my arsenal.

dont worry though i will always find time to draw something ghoulish !

Here is the last greeting card for DAMNATION BOOKS. i spent alot of time on this one. I had to start over a couple of times as i was not happy with the direction it was going.so i found myself learning as i went.im happy with the end result.

while my newest card iam doing , i wanted to keep from using any type of blender or smudge tool. well thats not gonna happen. it worked for the rough which you can see in my gallery but not gonna work for the color.i just cant get it to where i like it.

so i shall restart the painting. thank god thats only a click away on the computer !

painting and rocking out to Coheed and Cambria, dreading tomorrow. why you ask..or maybe you dont care. well i will tell you any way. tomorrow is colonoscopy prep day. that involves me drinking alot of laxatives and spending alot of time on to the toilet. not looking forward to it.

the painting is coming alogn nicely.a little slower then i would like but im schedual still. i was gonna post more wips but i think ill surprise ya with the final piece. i say in a couple of days i should have that done.

over the last few paintings i have done iam seeing more and more how important values are. i dont even have them down 25 % but what i think iam understanding has improved my work.

ok folks, here we have alot of the color done for the zombie.i shouldnt say done as i find myself always tweaking. i still have to do some work with the hues and highlights as well as the shadows. and thats just on the zombie.

next will be the back ground outside of the car and then the inside of the car and i should be able to call it quits on this one.

This is a new painting iam working on. this time i am going about it a bit different. iam painting it in values using grey tones.in the end this hopefully will result in a better finished product.

my good friend Nick told me about the importance of values a long time ago and as i always do i take things in stride and do things at my own pace.he is rite and hopefully i can get this technique down.

this is the 2nd in the series of 5 greeting cards iam doing for a company i have worked with in the past.(ill give more info when i can) the 1st card was already done, its my Halloween 09 painting.

anyway all the cards are zombie based and i love it. also this is the 1st painting i did on my new tablet ! i have about 8 hours into this.im sure ill get faster when i learn more with the tablet.

as you can see this is xmas based and poor santa has seen better days. i left the background pretty plain as they have to add text. doing these types of work you have to keep that in mind.

as always all critiques welcomed and encouraged. however i ask that you please do not down load this piece or use it in any manner as the rites for the work are already bought.

well lots have happened over the last few days..

got some work, thats always good, ill be doing 5 holiday cards with zombies on them ! zombies rock.it will be a nice little paycheck. ill be doing them on the computer as they will be in color. so my gf went out and bought me a tablet...i like it but man it takes some getting use to . she so nice to me..

the mural got some work done to it as well. i did some painting to the banner. im trying to make it look like old paper..its getting there.

so when i get some of the digi paintings done ill post them here. contract said i could use them for promotion ;)

This is the work i did for a unnamed film project.the project is still underway so i can not let out any other details other then the work.

a blood thirsty vamp holding a heart.i drew the picture with pencils and then proceeded to paint it in photo shop. i think i have about 15 hours into it.

as always lmk what ya think,good or bad.

in other news, i have more work on the mural done.photos of that will be up soon.
i also painted an aceo card. if you dont know what those are they are trading cards alot of artist do.2.5x3.5 inches. they really help you when doing detial, working that small makes you see things and aply them differntly. and all that transaltes to a better drawing at a larger size.also they are a big collecter item on ebay. they dont sell for that much but they are fun.
that will be up soon and 4 sale on ebay.

so ive been working on a mural on my work room door for the last week here and there. here are some steps of the mural.sorry about some of the quality of the pics.

its a basic theme,skull and cross bones with an old school banner on the bottom reading "TWISTED ARTS"

its all done in acrylic(my 1st acrylic painting) and im finding it a challenge. the paint dries quick ,i might look into a medium to slow it down. i tried water but it made it to "frothy" if that makes sense.

steps 1-3:

1, the basic pencil drawing.wanted to keep it simple for my 1st painting.

2, blocked in the main color of the background.

3.started working on the clouds

ever hear of spray paint art ? im sure you have.its something ive been wanting to try for a long time.so the other night i got bored and found myself watching tutorials on youtube by spraycasso on how to do this.i followed his beach scene in particular.

here are the results.

items used:4 cans of spray paint,new's paper and a sponge and my finger tips .i id it on a scrap piece of mat board. its roughly 24" x 15" hence the photo as it is to big for my scanner.

any one try this medium ? i did and its fun.i used a tutorial that was on youtube by spraycasso and the dude does some pretty cool work. look him up and check out his work, he might inspire you. ill post up the painting i did later.

in other news i will be doing a mural,well two. one for pay and one here at home. my brother in law owns an autoshop and wants something for his front counter. should be interesting.ive got the ok on the rough sketch i just need to refine it better.you will see the sketch as soon as i redo it.maybe ill take step by step photos as iam doing the mural too.

inspired by the beauties that my friend draws i decided to hone my skills as i rarely draw realistic figures. its something i need to do more of.(voices)

that leads me to this next piece. she is or maybe she isnt a vampire. she does how ever have a little blood dribbling out of her mouth.how it got there you be the judge.

i used one pencil, a hb i believe,im not 100% sure as i was just practicing and i thought it came out not to shabby. i also used a smudge stick.then cleaned up in photoshop.

about 2 hours.done on regular sketch paper.

so i just spent 2 hours finishing up the new paint piece ,it looked awesome.so i merge the layers and i forgot to do one step and messed the peice up...2 hours wasted...luckily i save steps so i can restart from where i left off.

NEW PAINT ON THE WAY

sorry i haven't posted much work up lately but its for a good reason.ive taking to painting digi style like no other.i have a piece in the works rite now.its a drawing i did last year roughly about this time.its one of my favorite drawings so i deided to add some color to it.

i have about 10 hours into it now(im still learning the program and im working with a mouse ). iam about 90% done with the paininting but i also did a seperate background that i painted and i plan on putting my painting onto that bacground. (thank god for tutorials on youtube)..

for the longest time i was 100% against digital art for my own reasons and honestly they were stupid.digital art is a medium that has its place in the art world.it speeds up time that you can never acheive in tradtional methods,its great for publishing and hell its fun and not messy.

it wont be my medium of choice as iam an old school artist at heart but digital art does have its place with me now too.when it comes to work for publishing it will be what i turn to,but for personal pieces or for work that is comisioned i will do that in a traditional way as i dont see digital art holding any value in a collective means,maybe in prints but that is about it.

regrdless, i really like it and im having fun. so stay tuned for some new work shortly.

i have a friend that gave sound advice about drawing, draw everyday,anything and everything. well ive been doing just that .in fact ive been doing it alot lately.

with this drawn im not drawing for perfection,not drawing to come out with my next best piece but when i "SCRIBBLE" like this iam just trying to tap into my creative side and release anything that may help me improve.plus they are fun to do... i also refer to them as freestyle drawings and have a few in my DA gallery.

this one is inspired by two people.. one is dick star and you can find him on DA..he does this awesome "torso" series and i always find my self dawn to them (no pun intended,ok a little)

the next person is the one and only HR GIGER,one of his earlier pieces.now i know this doesn't compare to either artist works and its not meant to but its who inspired this.... and i call her

"i need out" is a new possible tattoo design ive been working on for myself. i want to place the kanji symbol for anxiety on the piece of torn skin that is reattached.

drawn on 9x12 50lb sketch paper and touched up in photoshop.

about 3 hours.

its been a long time coming.with some of the art jobs i had i had to put the evil beaver to the side.

well last night i got a chance to finish it up. i think it turned out pretty good. again , and i know you have heard about me bitch about this 100 times but man i can never do the drawing justice with my scanner.

also if you notice i had to use a different brand of pencils and you can tell where.

ART BOOK MOVING FORWARD

as some of you may of read in past journals,myself,ben,owen,manthos and brandon (links to these artist are in past journals) are putting out an art book.it will be a collection of our works.iam almost done comprising the list of art that will be in the book.its a long process and with everyone schedules all over the place it takes time (and alot of caffeine).

each artist will have 18 pieces of work in the book for a total of 90 pieces ! the book will be affordable and it has to be with today's economy. so if you are a horror/sci fi fan keep an eye out !

each artist brings a different aspect and style to the book.for example:
bens brings alot of photomanipulations and some crazy abstacts to the table
manthos is the king of digital painitng
brandon brings the sci fi element and also has a love for something i do ...zombies...
owen brings some MAD pencil skills and draws some of the most beautiful woman out there
my self...you got it..if its not horror its not from me,well for the most part.

not to mention it just kicks ass doing this with some friends !

this will be out and blown up shop in bookstores soon !

well iam venturing into new territory..iam doing a digital painting for a friend. i cant get into to much detail about the actual painting yet as im not sure the person iam doing it for wants it out in the open.

i can say this,its not my 1st time playing with photshop but its still all very new to me.learning as i go and so far iam happy with it.
